God Cares When You Are Lonely

ARE YOU LONELY?

The prompt word for Five Minute Friday this week is lonely. I first tried to write a poem, but I saw it would take more than five minutes. So, I decided to save it to share at the end of the post and just write some thoughts that came to mind as I pondered the word. I'm also scattering a few sunset photos from the evening of April 18, 2024, at Redington Shores, Florida.

What does it mean to be lonely? Sometimes being alone is nice, but that is not the same as being lonely. We were not meant to be loners or completely independent, as illustrated in Ecclesiastes 4:-12:

Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their efforts. For if either falls, his companion can lift him up; but pity the one who falls without another to lift him up. Also, if two lie down together, they can keep warm; but how can one person alone keep warm? And if someone overpowers one person, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not easily broken.

We flourish when we have friends who not only have our backs but can also give constructive criticism. Look what it says in Proverbs 27:17:

Iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens another.

WHEN LONELINESS ENVELOPS

Sometimes, we do find ourselves feeling lonely even if there are other people around. We may not even understand why the loneliness seems to envelop us. In times like that, we can turn to God because He has promised never to leave us alone. He will always be with us to strengthen and guide. When we have no strength, He is our strength, our strong Rock, our refuge.

God’s Word is also a source of wisdom and can bring joy and peace. I often go to the Psalms when I am struggling, and I always find encouragement. The last few Psalms are filled with praise to God. When I read them, I can’t help but praise Him, and my heart fills with joy.

Here is the poem I mentioned in the beginning:

God Cares

When you are lonely
Overwhelmed by many things
Depressed or afraid

Wishing for relief
Wondering where to find peace
Feeling hope is lost

Remember, God cares
He will hear our pleading cries
When we call on Him

In His Holy Word
As you read and meditate
Strength and peace are found

  1. Gayl, both your thoughts and the poem are beautiful. And the photos as well! :)

We all do need one another - for encouragement, for support, to spur one another on, and to keep our faith strong. I so agree, God's Word is where I turn when feelings of loneliness come over me and He reminds me that I am never alone. May I say, I am grateful you returned to blogging for your words have always encouraged me. Blessings!

    1. Joanne, Thank you so much! Yes, we need each other so much, especially when there is so much chaos in the world. We need to be reminded that we have the Light - our Savior, Jesus, and I pray that we will shine brightly for Him. Thank you so much for your encouragement. I'm glad to have encouraged you. I guess I just couldn't stay away from blogging, but it's much simpler with the free blog. It may not have all the features as a paid one, but for now it's really all I need. Blessings to you!
