On What Does Everything Pivot?

WHAT IS A PIVOT?
This week's word prompt for Five
Minute Friday is pivot. At first, I could not think
of a thing to write about. I knew pivot had something to do with turning or
maybe changing one's mind on something. Yet, I was without words, so I checked
with the online Merriam-Webster
dictionary and these two definitions stood out to me:
- a shaft or pin on which something turns
- a person, thing, or factor having a major or central role, function, or effect
For the first definition...
I thought of how the earth spins on its axis (which is like an
invisible pivot) while simultaneously orbiting around the sun. Then my thoughts
turned to the fact that it couldn't have just gotten there by itself. Something
or Someone had to put it there and keep it going.
Here's where the second definition comes in...
In this case it doesn't refer to just
a person, but to God. Everything depends on God. Much more than a pivot, He is
the Creator and Sustainer of the world and everything in it. This God of the
Bible is the One, true God, who reigns above all, forever and ever. He has
always existed and always will exist. In Him we have life and breath. Without
Him, nothing would be alive. He truly does have the "whole world in His
hands."
FROM ETERNITY TO ETERNITY
Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and
the world, from eternity to eternity, you are God. (Psalm
90:2)
My five minutes are up, but there is so much more to be said about our awesome God. The best way to learn about Him and get to know Him is through the Bible. He has spoken to us in it and through creation, which is constantly showing us the glory and majesty of God.
